The Eco-Anxiety Action-Oriented Toolkit is a collaborative effort with Dr. Leyla Acaroglu and the team at Disrupt Design, and I’m really proud of this contribution that is available as a free download to anyone who wants to explore the topic and uncover actions that they can take to address eco-anxiety.

The toolkit is a product of extensive research into the latest science on eco-anxiety as well as a practical guide to addressing it through individual actions, community actions, education actions, workplace actions and public policy actions, as it distills current research into accessible, achievable outcomes across these areas. We included a lot of interactive and reflective activities that invite the reader to reflect on their experiences and commit to 1-3 actions that align with their journey with eco-anxiety. The toolkit is designed to empower anyone to make tangible changes in their approach to navigating climate and eco-anxiety; I hope it helps others see that this is a natural part of a rational response to the global environmental crises we face and that no one person is alone in dealing with the issues at hand.

The science is clear: eco-anxiety is a normal and rational response to ecological destruction. But eco-anxiety isn't all doom and gloom. When effective coping strategies are used, feelings of eco-anxiety can lead to developing resilience, hope, connection and engagement in climate action. Climate change is a complex systemic issue that is riddled with opportunities. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for eco-anxiety, and while current research is still limited, it’s clear that action is part of the antidote.

Please delve into this toolkit and share your thoughts and experiences. Together, let's understand and navigate the feelings that climate change evokes in us and our networks so that collectively, we can support each other and turn anxiety into meaningful climate action.

It was a pleasure working with Dr. Leyla Acaroglu, Emma Segal and Jamie Ferrell at Disrupt Design over the first few months of 2024. I want to express my sincere thanks for collaborating with them on this project.
